1 Killed, 1 Injured in Crash Involving Suspected DUI Driver
COACHELLA, Calif. (June 8, 2023) — Jacob Snellings, 21, of Coachella, died in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday night at Avenue 51 and Chiapas Street in Coachella.
Additionally, Antonio Tellez Leon, 38, of Coachella, was arrested on suspicion of murder, DUI, driving on a suspended license and in violation of probation, according to the Desert Sun. The collision also left another person injured.
The deadly collision occurred around 8:15 p.m. on June 6th, according to the Riverside County Sheriff Coroner.
Police responded and located two people from one vehicle involved in the crash with life-threatening injuries, but sadly Jacob Snellings died at the scene. The second was transported to a hospital for further treatment.
Meanwhile, the second driver, Antonio Leon, was not injured in the crash. Police suspected he was driving under the influence of alcohol and or drugs.
Authorities arrested the driver and booked him into the John J. Benoit Detention Center in Indio, police said.
Meanwhile, police closed down Avenue 51 between Frederick Street and Van Buren Street to conduct an investigation into what happened.
The investigation into the fatal crash on Avenue 51 in Coachella is ongoing.
