Jacob Szymanski, Jonathan Barksdale, Killed Highway 371 Car Accident
AGUANGA, California (June 13, 2017) — Jacob Szymanski, 26, of Anza and Jonathan Barksdale, 28, of Anza were killed Tuesday in a single-vehicle collision on Highway 371, roughly a half mile west of Lake Shore Boulevard, according to a Riverside County Sheriff Coroner Report.
The crash took place about sometime before 7 a.m. on June 13. The driver of the 2007 Ford Mustang that crashed reportedly lost control, struck a boulder and overturned onto its roof. It appears that the crash was not seen until early Tuesday morning, but police don’t know when it took place. Paramedics arriving at the scene pronounced both men dead at 7:10 a.m.
The California Highway Patrol’s Temecula station is heading up the investigation into what happened. The preliminary report indicates the driver was traveling at a speed too fast to negotiate a curve in the roadway. They believe the vehicle was launched into the air when it struck the boulder, roughly 25 feet from the roadway. That’s what caused the car to rollover onto its roof.
