OCEANSIDE (September 29, 2016)- Jacqueline Murillo, 21, of Escondido has been identified as the woman who was fatally struck Monday, September 26th, on the southbound Interstate 5 freeway, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner.
The incident took place right around 3:05 p.m. when a 24-year-old woman driving a Mazda pulled over to the center divider. The 21-year-old passenger exited the vehicle and was suddenly truck by an out of control 2016 Toyota 4-Runner driven by a 41-year-old El Cajon man. One report indicated Murillo had been working for a Caltrans Community Service Crew prior to the collision.
The Escondido woman was rushed to Scripps La Jolla Hospital, where she later died of her injuries. A Go Fund Me page has been established in an effort to raise $4,000 to cover her funeral expenses.
Per California Highway Patrol officials, the driver of the 4-Runner remained at the scene and alcohol is not suspected to have been involved in the crash.
