CHP Now Says 91 Freeway Fatal Crash Wasn’t Caused by Street Racing
COMPTON, Calif. (May 2, 2022) – Jadelynn Kwok, 18, of El Monte, and a 24-year-old Huntington Beach man, both died early Saturday in a crash on the Riverside (91) Freeway in Compton.
The collision occurred about 12:37 a.m. on April 30th, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Investigators say a driver in a Honda struck the left side of a Toyota 4-Runner SUV driven by the Huntington Beach man. Jadelynn Kwok was riding as a passenger in the Toyota SUV. The SUV veered off the freeway and struck a pole. Meanwhile, the Honda driver fled the scene without stopping.
Also, a group of street racers was observed in the area at the time of the hit-and-run collision, but the Toyota was not a part of that group, police said.
Someone called 911 to report the crash on the eastbound 91 Freeway, just west of Acacia Avenue.
Both the Toyota’s driver and his passenger, identified as Jadelynn Kwok, died at the scene.
Witnesses to the crash or who have information about the suspect, may contact Officer A. Phillipson at the CHP’s South Los Angeles area office at 424-551-4000.
