DUI Driver Jaime Benavidez, 25, Kills Another Motorist in Palermo Crash
PALERMO, CA (May 12, 2021) – Authorities detained Jaime Benavidez after a fatal DUI crash on Lincoln Boulevard in Palermo.
The California Highway Patrol determined that the 25-year-old Yuba City man was under the influence of alcohol when he killed another motorist last week.
The incident happened on Friday when Jaime Benavidez was driving a 2000 Audi at an unsafe speed on Lincoln Boulevard in Palermo. He then slammed into the back of a 2001 Toyota.
CHP said the Toyota went off the road and struck a tree, south of Messina Avenue. KRCRTV News wrote that the wreck occurred on May 7 shortly after 10:30 p.m.
Ines Nolasco Maximiano, 34, Victim in Fatal Crash
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived at the site and confirmed that the male driver of the Toyota died as a result of the collision.
The Butte County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 34-year-old Los Angeles resident Ines Nolasco Maximiano. Loved ones set up a GoFundMe page to help cover his funeral expenses.
Meanwhile, CHP affirmed that Jaime Benavidez tried to flee the area following the crash but witnesses stopped and detained him. Officers soon arrested him for DUI.
Records showed that the suspect was arraigned in the Butte County Court on charges including leaving the scene. The Palermo DUI crash is still under investigation.
