Jaime Sanchez, 43, Killed in Merced Hit-and-Run Near Childs and Watertown
MERCED, CA (August 19, 2021) – A hit-and-run crash killed Jaime Sanchez near Childs Avenue and Watertown Drive in Merced.
The Sheriff Coroner’s Office identified the 43-year-old Merced man as the victim of the fatal collision which took place on Monday.
The incident began when Jaime Sanchez was walking near the intersection of East Childs Avenue and Watertown Drive in Merced. At the same time, 2004 Mercedes was going east on Childs Avenue.
Police said for an unknown reason, the car then struck the pedestrian. The Merced Sun Star wrote that the accident occurred on August 16 shortly before 1 a.m.

Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and found the man left lying on the ground as a result of the collision. Jaime Sanchez died at the scene of the Merced crash.
Meanwhile, police affirmed that the 22-year-old man driving the Mercedes did not stop to render aid to the victim and fled the area. He later went back to the site and cooperated with the authorities.
Officers soon arrested and cited the driver on suspicion of felony hit-and-run causing injury or death. They released him due to jail booking protocols.
