Suspect Arrested Hit-and-run Moreno Valley Crash

 Jamal McCoy Arrested Fatal Moreno Valley Crash Iris Ave, Camino Flores (May 25)MORENO VALLEY, Calif. (May 26, 2021) — Jamal McCoy, 21, of Moreno Valley, was arrested Tuesday night following a fatal hit-and-run collision at Iris Avenue and Camino Flores in Moreno Valley.

The fiery Moreno Valley crash happened about 11:47 p.m. on May 25th, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Moreno Valley Station.

Police officers responded to the two-vehicle traffic collision near the Moreno Valley intersection.

A driver in a gold, 2005 Toyota Camry was traveling westbound on Iris Avenue. At the intersection with Camino Flores, the car drove through a red signal light and collided with a silver, 2006 BMW 325i. The BMW was making a left turn from eastbound Iris Avenue towards northbound Camino Flores, according to police.

The BMW struck the driver’s side of the Toyota causing its driver to lose control. Next, the Toyota crashed into a light pole where it burst into flames.

The driver of the BMW subsequently abandoned the vehicle in the roadway.

The suspect fled on foot and ran northbound on Camino Flores. Police determined that Jamal McCoy was the registered owner of the vehicle. He was located at his home and arrested. Jamal McCoy faces felony hit-and-run charges. He was booked into Riverside County Jail. However, toxicology results are pending at this time.

Meanwhile, the driver in the Toyota died in the fiery crash. Firefighters extinguished the fire upon their arrival at the crash scene. The person will be identified after relatives are notified.
