James and Rosalyn Allina Killed in La Mesa Crash on the Interstate 8 Freeway
La Mesa Couple Die in Chain-Reaction Collision on Interstate 8 Freeway
LA MESA, Calif. (Feb. 12, 2025) — James Josef Allina, 79, along with his wife, Rosalyn Allina, 77, both died in a chain-reaction collision on the Interstate 8 Freeway, just west of Fletcher Parkway in La Mesa.
The La Mesa couple were traveling together in a Toyota sedan that became disabled in the eastbound lanes of the freeway.
The lights on the Toyota went out and it was stopped in the No. 3 lane. This happened around 7:20 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 10th, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.
That’s when a driver in a Dodge SUV crashed into the back of the Toyota. Next, another driver in a Kia sedan hit the back of the Dodge as part of a chain-reaction collision.
Fatal La Mesa Crash Interstate 8 Freeway
Upon impact, the Toyota was pushed into the fast lane and both occupants suffered major injuries.
Witnesses called 911 and bystanders removed the elderly man and woman from their vehicle and laid them on the ground.
Bystanders provided lifesaving measures on the man and woman until paramedics arrived and transported him to Sharp Memorial Hospital.
Both James and Rosalyn Allina later died at the hospital. Investigators are working to determine fault for the fatal La Mesa crash.
