Motorcyclist James Bennett Seriously Injured in Independence Crash on Highway 395
INYO COUNTY (June 13, 2020) – Officials identified the motorcyclist seriously injured after a traffic collision along Highway 395 in Independence on Friday.
The California Highway Patrol said James Bennett, of Oxnard, suffered major injuries following the accident on June 12.
The incident began when Bennett was riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle north on Highway 395 in the No. 1 lane, approaching a tractor-trailer combination of vehicles from the south.
At the same time, the truck pulled to the right shoulder near Dusty Lane. Its operator then started to make a U-turn to southbound Highway 395 across the northbound lanes.

As Bennett approached, he applied his brakes and veered to avoid a crash with the big rig. However, he failed and ultimately collided with the tractor-trailer.
According to the article published by the Sierra Wave Media, CHP affirmed that the impact knocked both the rider and his bike to the ground.
Paramedics responded to the scene and transported the motorcyclist to Southern Inyo Hospital for treatment. The crash occurred at approximately 1 p.m.
Officers did not mention if the driver of the truck, Justin Verzani, of Ponca, Nebraska, was harmed following the wreck. Meanwhile, authorities are still investigating the collision.
