James Coffin, 47; and Joanne Ruggirello, 43, Injured in Highway 29 Crash Near Yountville
NAPA COUNTY, CA (May 8, 2021) – A fatal crash on Highway 29 injured James Coffin and Joanne Ruggirello near Yountville in Napa County.
The California Highway Patrol identified the two Napa residents as the victim in the accident which occurred on Friday night.
The incident began when 43-year-old Joanne M. Ruggirello was driving a 2011 Honda Pilot north on Highway 29 near Yountville. James Coffin, 47, and two others passengers, ages 16 and 4, were riding with her.
At the same time, a 2003 Nissan Altima was going south. For an unknown reason, the Nissan crossed a double-yellow line into oncoming northbound traffic.
Pedro Santarosa, 24, Killed in Napa County Collision
Its driver, 24-year-old Pedro Alexis Santarosa, went directly into the path of the Honda. The Pilot then collided with the passenger side of the Altima.
All four occupants of the Honda ended up hurt as a result of the collision. Joanne Ruggirello, the teen and the child all sustained minor injuries while James Coffin suffered moderate injuries.
Paramedics rushed them to Providence Queen of the Valley Medical Center for treatment. The Napa Valley Register wrote that the wreck took place on May 7 at about 9 p.m.
Meanwhile, medical personnel pronounced Santarosa, of St. Helena, dead at the scene. Officers forced Highway 29 to shut down in both directions for about two and a half hours following the wreck.
The Napa County crash is still under investigation.
