Bicyclist James Findley, 55, Killed in Car Accident on South Broadway
SOUTH LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Feb. 12, 2019) — James Findley, 55, was struck and killed Monday night by a driver who was reportedly speeding down Avalon Boulevard.
The crash was reported about 10:25 p.m. near West 82nd Street in this Florence neighborhood.
Police are searching for a second driver who may have been involved in the high-speed crash. The driver failed to stop after possibly racing another motorist that struck a bicyclist.
A witness told police that there were two vehicles speeding down South Broadway. One of them struck the bicyclist who was crossing Avalon Boulevard at West 82nd Street, Los Angeles Police Department Sgt. George Hoopes said.
Investigators are now looking into whether or not the vehicles were racing prior to the crash.
The Los Angeles Sheriff Coroner identified the victim killed as James Findley. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 25 to 30 year old Hispanic man who was driving the car that struck Findley stopped after the crash and was detained by police. His vehicle also struck some parked cars and a tree.
Investigators are reviewing surveillance video that may show the incident.
