James Connor McFarland, 28, ID’d as DUI Wrong-Way Driver in Fallbrook Crash

FALLBROOK, CA (June 4, 2021) – Authorities detained James McFarland after a DUI crash on the Interstate 15 in Fallbrook.

The California Highway Patrol determined that the 28-year-old Cardiff man was under the influence of alcohol when the wreck occurred on Friday.

The incident began when James Connor McFarland was driving an 2014 Audi south in the northbound lanes of the Interstate 15 in Fallbrook. At the same time, a 2013 Toyota was going north.

CHP said James McFarland then slammed head-on into the Toyota near Mission Road. The Toyota caught fire due to the impact of the collision.

Man, 46, Seriously Injured in Interstate 15 Head-On Crash

Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and found the driver of the burning car suffering from major injuries. San Diego Union-Tribune and ABC 10 News wrote that the accident took place shortly after 4 a.m.

Medical personnel rushed the victim, a 46-year-old Chula Vista man, to a hospital for treatment. His name and condition at this time were not released.

Meanwhile, the wrong-way motorist sustained minor wounds following the wreck. Officers arrested and booked James McFarland into jail on suspicion of DUI.

They set his bail at $100,000. The Fallbrook DUI crash is under investigation.
