2 Killed, 1 Injured in Crash Near Bean Hollow Road
SAN MATEO COUNTY, Calif. (May 31, 2023) — James Willis, 66, has died, his wife, Astrid Willis, 62, was critically injured in a deadly crash Tuesday night on Highway 1 near Bean Hollow Road in San Mateo county.
Patricio Cabrera Jr., 29, of San Francisco, was also killed in the two-vehicle crash.
The San Mateo County Coroner’s Office identified both men as the drivers of the two vehicles involved in the crash.
Astrid Willis, of Davenport, suffered major injuries and was transported to Stanford Hospital
2 Dead After Highway 1 Crash Near Pescadero
The two drivers died after their cars submerged under water following a crash on Highway 1 and Bean Hollow Road.
The collision occurred around 6:40 p.m. on May 30th, near the town of Pescadero, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officials reported the drivers of a Tesla and a grey Subaru SUV were involved. The Tesla was heading southbound and the SUV was northbound prior to the collision. One of the vehicles reportedly veered into opposing traffic and collided with the other vehicle.
The two vehicles went off the east side of the highway and both vehicles went down an embankment into a lagoon where they became submerged in the water.
The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office and paramedics responded to the scene to help those involved, but the woman was the only survivor.
Investigators continue to piece together what happened and determine fault for the fatal crash on Highway 1.
