The 38-year-old Atwater man was a victim of a traffic collision which occurred Saturday at about 6 a.m. on the Atwater Boulevard on-ramp to southbound Highway 99.

As per the article, California Highway Patrol said a 2006 Ford Focus driven by Ziegenfuss was going to merge onto Highway 99 from the Atwater Boulevard on-ramp when it was hit from behind by a 2001 Honda Accord.

Suspect ID’d as Asa Ince, 36

The Ford was then pushed into the southbound lanes of the highway where it rolled over several times.

CHP affirmed that Ziegenfuss was airlifted to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto with major head injuries considered as life-threatening. He is reportedly expected to survive.

Meanwhile, the motorist in the Honda abandoned his car and allegedly ran away from the scene. The suspect, 36-year-old Asa Lee Ince, was later located and taken into custody.

The Merced man was booked into the Merced County jail on felony allegations of DUI causing injury and hit-and-run. He posted bail and was released from custody Sunday.
