Officer, 53; and Matthews, 47, Seriously Injured in Hit-and-Run on Petaluma Boulevard South
PETALUMA (June 19, 2020) – An alleged hit-and-run collision along Petaluma Boulevard South seriously injured two motorcycle riders on Sunday.
The California Highway Patrol identified the wounded victims as 53-year-old Jarod Officer, of Petaluma; and 47-year-old Jane Matthews, of Oakland.
The incident happened on June 14 when Officer was operating a motorcycle with Matthews as his passenger south on Petaluma Boulevard South, north of Landing Way.
Officers said a pickup truck traveling in front of the bike then started making a right turn. The vehicle was apparently exiting the road at the time.
However, the car went back into traffic and made an illegal left U-turn directly in front of the motorcycle. The riders ultimately collided with the left side of the pickup.

Both riders reportedly suffered major but non-life-threatening injuries. Paramedics responded to the scene and immediately took them to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, CHP affirmed that the driver involved did not stop to render aid and fled northbound. Officers described the suspect vehicle as a dark red or maroon colored full-size Chevrolet truck.
Witnesses told officials that the pickup had a black lumber rack with tool boxes on the sides. The truck possibly sustained left-side damage as a result of the crash.
