Man, 42, Identified as Victim of 405 Freeway Accident
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Sept. 25, 2023) – Jarrett Townsend, 42, died in a crash on the Interstate 405 Freeway at North Mulholland Drive early Thursday morning in the Bel Air area.
The drivers of a semi truck and a Volkswagen Beetle were involved in the 4:42 a.m. collision, according to the California Highway Patrol report.
CHP officers responded to the southbound San Diego (405) Freeway and located both vehicles on the side of the freeway with major damage, police said.
One person was trapped in the dark-colored Volkswagen and died at the scene. The Los Angeles County Sheriff Coroner identified the victim as Jarrett Townsend on its website.
Authorities requested a hard closure of the southbound 405 Freeway, just north of Mulholland Drive and issued a SigAlert for the Nos. 4 and 5 lanes for roughly two hours. Traffic was backed up for hours after the crash in the Sepulveda Pass and connecting freeways.
The cause of the crash and liability are under investigation.
