Jasmine Johnson, 38, Identified as Victim
LOCATION: Dublin, Alameda County
DATE OF INCIDENT: Monday, September 3rd
September 5, 2018- NBC Bay Area reports that Jasmine Johnson, 38, has been identified as the woman who jumped from an ambulance in westbound I-580 freeway lanes before being hit by several cars earlier this week.
Authorities had officially been taken to Valley Care Medical Center located in Pleasanton for a psychiatric evaluation after being involved in a dispute around 2:00 a.m.
Following her initial evaluation, an ambulance picked up Johnson and was instructed to transport her to John George Psychiatric Pavilion located in the city of San Leandro.
Emergency Personnel May Be Responsible for Patient’s Death
According to the article, the ambulance pulled over and stopped for unknown reasons relating to the patient. While stopped and despite being restrained by emergency personnel, the 38-year-old was able to somehow free herself and able to exit the ambulance before running into traffic lanes and being struck by multiple vehicles.
Johnson did not survive and was sadly pronounced at the scene.
At this time, the investigation is ongoing.
Wrongful Death Lawyer
Based on the information provided in the report, the company that had been transporting Ms. Jasmine Johnson will likely be held liable for not properly restraining her and allowing her to jump from the ambulance. It is the job of a paramedic or emergency caretaker to assure that a patient is unable to escape restraint and exit an ambulance like what happened in this incident. A thorough investigation will ensue, however, as photos that were taken of the scene and compiled evidence will help investigators determine the specifics.
In such cases where negligence or wrongdoing may have been a factor, surviving family members of Jasmine Johnson will likely be entitled to wrongful death against the entity responsible for the patient at that time. Families of wrongful death victims may seek compensation for damages including funeral costs, medical expenses and hospital bills, pain and suffering, and lost future income.
