Jason Chavez Killed in Rollover Crash on Fred Waring Drive in Indio

Man, 22, Identified as Victim of Solo Collision in Indio
INDIO, Calif. (July 16, 2026) — Jason Chavez, 22, of Indio, died and a second person was injured Monday morning after a solo-vehicle rollover crash on Fred Waring Drive in Indio.
Both the driver and passenger in the blue Toyota Tundra pickup truck were ejected in the collision, just east of Burr Street, according to the Indio Police Department.
The crash happened at 8:13 a.m. when the westbound pickup truck’s driver reportedly lost control and the truck overturned. Chavez suffered major injuries and was pronounced dead at 8:28 a.m. on scene, the Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner reports.
Meanwhile, another adult in the vehicle was injured and transported to a local hospital.
The Indio Police Department’s Traffic Unit is handling the investigation, but the cause of the crash was not released.
