Suspect Arrested After Collision Near Oxnard Boulevard
Oxnard, CA (May 7, 2023) – Jason McGarrah, a 51-year-old man suffered injuries following a suspected DUI crash that occurred on State Route Highway 101.
On May 7, Sunday, a wrong-way vehicle collided with a patrol vehicle on the highway in Oxnard. The KEYT News reported a northbound 2002 Mitsubishi Galant veered into the opposite lanes and continued traveling in the wrong direction. In the area near Oxnard Boulevard, the wrong-way Mitsubishi approached a southbound 1998 Toyota Avalon. According to the article published online, the Toyota driver swerved his vehicle out of the way and ended up driving off the side of the roadway near the Telephone Road.
California Highway Patrol officers attempted to stop the wrong-way motorist with their patrol car. The deputy hit the left side of the Mitsubishi, but the suspect continued traveling north in the southbound side of the highway.
At Least 1 Hurt in Wrong-Way DUI Crash on SR-101
Shortly after 2:01 a.m., emergency crews arrived at the location and found the driver of the Toyota complaining of pain to his back. Officials later identified the victim as Jason McGarrah.
Ventura County Sheriff’s and multiple CHP units later responded to the scene and apprehended the wrong-way motorist. Police eventually arrested the suspect for DUI causing injury.
Further investigation on the case is ongoing.
