2 Teenagers Killed in Blythe Car Accident
BLYTHE, Ca (September 15, 2019) – Javier Castillo, 13, and Eliseo Castillo, 14, both of San Jacinto, died Sunday when the all-terrain vehicle (ATV) they were riding in overturned in an open desert area west of Blythe, the California Highway Patrol officials said.
The collision took place at 11:55 a.m. in the 13800 block of Mesa Drive, near Green Street, according to the Riverside County Sheriff Coroner. The incident took place in a dirt area, just south of Interstate 10 in the unincorporated community of Mesa Verde.
The 2015 Polaris RZR was being driven by a 13-year-old San Jacinto girl and the two boys and a second girl were passengers. The teenager tried to make a left-hand turn and the ATV rolled over onto its right side — crushing the two boys. The boys were not wearing seat belts and were sitting on the right rear door panel with backs facing the exterior of the ATV.
The teen girl driving the ATV and a 9-year-old Blythe girl who were on the left side of the ATV were both wearing seat belts. They suffered moderate injuries and were taken to a local hospital.
Investigators continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
