3 Children Hospitalized After Collision on Highway 101 Monday
Gaviota, CA (January 21, 2022) – Several people, including Javier Morales and Elvia Perea, suffered injuries following a traffic accident that occurred on Highway 101.
The Noozhawk News reported a GMC was traveling south on the highway on January 17, Monday. When the vehicle approached the Gaviota Tunnel, the driver lost control of the car and veered across the right shoulder of the freeway. The GMC ended up crashed into the raised embankment. Due to the force from the impact, the vehicle rolled over several times.
When rescue teams arrived at the site, they found two adults with injuries. The article published online confirmed the driver, 30-year-old Javier Morales; and passenger 23-year-old Elvia Perea, both sustained major to moderate injuries.
Authorities added three children passengers–ages 8, 5 and 3, also sustained major trauma as a result of the wreck.
A helicopter later landed near the accident scene and airlifted one patient to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. All other patients were taken by ground ambulances to the hospitals.
At this time, detectives continue to investigate the precise cause of the car crash on Highway 101 at the Gaviota Tunnel.
