Javier Oliverez Arraignment in Long Beach Court
LONG BEACH, Calif. (May 7, 2019) — Javier Olivarez, 44, a known gang member who allegedly led police on a chase before crashing and into and SUV and killing a woman and five dogs, is facing nine felony counts and is scheduled to appear in court Thursday in Dept. S1, Long Beach Courthouse, 275 Magnolia Ave.
The suspect is accused of causing a collision that killed Jessica Bingaman, 41, a single mom and professional dog walker, who was traveling with six dogs in her SUV on Tuesday last week, according to KCAL 9 News in Los Angeles.
The Los Angeles District Attorneys’s Office stated that Olivarez is charged with one count each of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence, fleeing a pursuing peace officer’s vehicle causing death and driving or taking a vehicle without consent, along with six counts animal cruelty.
Olivarez, who was injured in the collision, was allegedly driving a stolen vehicle in the May 7th crash.
The police pursuit began at 11:30 a.m. at the intersection of Broadway and Alamitos. It ended in the violent crash at with the SUV at 3rd and Temple. Paramedics responded to the scene with firefighters who had to extricate the woman and the animals who were trapped in the vehicle. They rushed the woman to a hospital where she died.
Jessie, as she was known to friends, was reportedly driving to a dog park with six dogs in her vehicle when the collision took place. She is survived by a 10-year-old daughter who found out about the collision when she got out of school that day.
Police say the vehicle had been reported stolen the previous night. Oliverez was arrested and charged with felony DUI, manslaughter and evading police.
