Javier Tamayo Struck, Killed on Western Avenue by Hit-and-Run Driver

SOUTH LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Feb. 17, 2026) — Javier Tamayo, 50, of Los Angeles, died Sunday night in a hit-and-run crash at South Western Avenue and West 82nd Street in South Los Angeles, authorities said.

Officers with the Los Angeles Police Department responded around 9:30 p.m. on Feb. 15th to the intersection in the Manchester Square neighborhood.

Investigators said a driver traveling northbound on Western Avenue struck the victim, who was walking westbound in a crosswalk at West 82nd Street. The motorist did not stop and fled the scene.

Paramedics from the Los Angeles Fire Department responded and pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene. The Los Angeles County Sheriff-Coroner later identified the victim as Javier Tamayo.

The LAPD’s South Traffic Division is leading the investigation into the fatal hit-and-run collision.
