3 Killed, 1 Hurt in Placerville Crash on Highway 50
PLACERVILLE, Calif. (Jan. 16, 2019) — Javier Urenda, 51, of Fremont, a woman and a baby were all killed and a man was critically injured in a crash Tuesday night on Highway 50 near Camino Heights Drive, according to the California Highway Patrol
The collision was reported about 6:30 p.m. The 51-year-old man was driving roughly 60 mph as he drove westbound on Highway 50. He suddenly lost control of the Volvo and it spun out and veered into opposing traffic in the eastbound lanes.
The Volvo was struck on its right side by a Subaru driven by a 39-year-old Michael Thomas of Pollack Pines.
The impact caused the driver of the Volvo and one-year-old Cielo Urenda to be ejected from the vehicle. Nancy Jimenez, 24, of Stockton, was in the right front passenger seat and the man were both pronounced dead at the scene.
The one-year-old was transported to a hospital where she later died.
The Subaru driver suffered major injuries. Paramedics responding to the scene treated him and called for him to be airlifted to a trauma hospital.
The CHP is investigating the crash, but early indications are that slick roads from heavy rain combined with speed were likely factors.
