Jay Fred King III, 30, Killed in San Rafael DUI Crash on Highway 101
MARIN COUNTY, CA (April 22, 2023) – A wrong-way crash left Jay Fred King III seriously injured on Highway 101 in San Rafael.
Police identified the 30-year-old Novato man as the victim in the fatal wreck which took place on Saturday.
The incident happened when Jay Fred King III was driving a black 2011 BMW sedan south on Highway 101 near the Interstate 580 interchange in San Rafael.
At the same time, a red 2018 Nissan pickup truck was traveling north on the southbound side of the highway. The California Highway Patrol said the Nissan then slammed head-on into the BMW.
Wrong-Way Driver, 20, Killed in Wreck
The Marin Independent Journal and CBS San Francisco wrote that the collision occurred on April 22 at about 3:30 a.m. Jay Fred King III sustained major injuries as a result of the crash.
Paramedics arrived and rushed him to the Marin General Hospital for treatment. Firefighters pronounced the driver of the Nissan, a 22-year-old Santa Rosa man, dead at the scene of the accident.
Meanwhile, CHP believed that the wrong-way motorist was under the influence of alcohol when he hit the other car. The cause of the San Rafael crash is still under investigation.
Officers forced the southbound lanes of Highway 101 to shut down for several hours following the wreck. Anyone with information can call at the Marin CHP office at (415) 924-1100.
