Police Pursuit Ends with Innocent Bystander Killed in Fiery Fairfax District Crash

Jeeves Tangonan Fatal Crash Fairfax Avenue and Third Street LOS ANGELES, Calif. (March 3, 2021) – Jeeves Tangonan, 37, of Los Angeles, died Wednesday after a car pursued by police crashed into a blue SUV at Fairfax Avenue and Third Street.

Police arrested the 28-year-old suspect at the scene.

The collision began when a sheriff’s deputy attempted to pull over a suspect for a traffic stop. Police observed the gray Chevrolet Malibu “lane straddling” and driving in the dark with no headlights on.

Officers pulled over the suspect believing he was intoxicated. However, after the deputy stopped and approached the suspect’s vehicle, the driver fled the scene. As he drove off the suspect’s Chevrolet struck the police cruiser.

Fairfax District Fatal Crash

That’s when a chase took place and wound up in the Fairfax District about 10:30 p.m. The suspect crashed into a blue SUV and killed its driver identified as Jeeves Tangonan. The Los Angeles County coroner’s office released the identity of the victim. Also, his blue SUV went off the roadway and up onto a sidewalk. It would up stuck between a building and a tree.

Firefighters with the Los Angeles County Fire Department responded and freed Jeeves Tangonan from the wreckage.

Police arrested the suspect on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, assault with a deadly weapon against a police officer and other charges.

Meanwhile, both the police officer involved in the initial traffic stop and the suspect were taken to a hospital. Their injuries are considered non-life threatening.

Jeeves Tangonan was a chef at a West Hollywood hotel and was on his way home at the time of the deadly crash, CBS2 reports.

Investigators continue to piece together the facts and eventually the suspect will be identified.
