Jena Daley Injured, Robert Speed Killed in Skyway Car Accident
PARADISE, Butte County (July 17, 2017) – A head-on collision killed a driver and injured another on Skyway Sunday afternoon, according to ChicoER.
As per the article, police said 22-year-old Jena Daley was traveling north at a safe speed on Skyway when a southbound blue Ford allegedly veered off the center lane and went directly into her path.
Daley was unable to avoid the collision and crashed her silver Kia head-on into the Ford driven by 57-year-old Robert Speed.
Emergency crews responded to the scene in front of the Italian Garden Restaurant and Lounge at approximately 2:15 p.m. Daley was found trapped in the wreckage with unspecified injuries.
She was extricated from her car and was later transported to a hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, police affirmed that Speed died at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The collision prompted an approximately 3-hour road closure on Skyway between Oliver Road and Maxwell Drive. Investigators are trying to determine if drugs or alcohol played a role in the tragic incident.
There are still questions which remain unanswered at this time—Was excessive speed or distracted driving a factor? Was Mr. Robert Speed driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the crash? Was there negligence on the part of either of the two parties involved?
