Jenna Causby and Dorothyann Guthrie Killed in Gaviota Crash on Highway 1
GAVIOTA, CA (October 28, 2022) – Jenna Causby and Dorothyann Guthrie were killed after a car crash on Highway 1 near Gaviota.
The California Highway Patrol identified the Lompoc women as victims of the fatal wreck which took place on Friday.
The incident happened when Jenna Causby was driving a Chevy Malibu north with Dorothyann Guthrie as her passenger on Highway 1 near Gaviota.
At the same time, a Ford C-Max MPV was traveling at 80 mph south. The Ford then overtook slower traffic traveling southbound in front and passed over solid double yellow lines.
The C-Max continued the wrong-way directly into the path of the Chevy. The Malibu turned to the right to avoid the other car, however, the Ford veered to the left.
Speeding Driver Hits Another Car Head-On
In the process, the C-Max slammed into the Chevy head-on. Both cars rotated in a counterclockwise direction as a result of the collision and became engulfed in flames.
The Santa Maria Times and Noozhawk wrote that the accident occurred shortly after 4 a.m. about one mile north of the Highway 101 junction.
Jenna Causby, 19, and Dorothyann Guthrie, 20, died at the scene of the crash. CHP said the speeding male driver survived the incident with critical injuries.
Paramedics rushed the man to a hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, officers arrested him on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
CHP forced Highway 1 to shut down in both directions for a time following the wreck. The cause of the Gaviota crash is still under investigation.
