JENNER, SONOMA COUNTY (August 23, 2016)- According to the California Highway Patrol, a deadly accident involving at least one vehicle took place Tuesday morning on southbound Highway 1 (Coast Highway).
CHP officials were notified of the incident at 8:29 a.m. and located a vehicle described as a pickup truck which was off the road in the ocean water located off the side of the highway.
A large sized big rig with a 300-foot cable was required in order to tow the submerged pickup truck from the water.
Per the Press-Demoncrat, two children were found dead inside the car. They were identified by Sonoma County Coroner’s Office as Hailey Markus, 4, and Kaitlyn Markus, 6.
Their mother, 32-year-old Sarah Markus, was driving at the time. She said the pickup fishtailed after she made a left turn onto Highway 1.
At this time, the collision is under investigation as the cause of the crash remains unclear and whether or not any other vehicles were involved.
