Jennifer Rae Xavier, 21, Suspect in Deadly DUI Collision in Tecolote Creek
San Diego, CA (August 23, 2021) – Police arrested 21-year-old Jennifer Rae Xavier in relation with a fatal car crash in Tecolote Creek on March 4, 2021.
The San Diego Union-Tribune reported Jennifer Xavier was driving a vehicle traveling on Interstate 5. Due to the alleged intoxication of the driver, she apparently missed the exit from south Interstate 5 to Sea World Drive.
Officials said Jennifer Xavier made an abrupt movement, causing the BMW sedan to crash down Tecolote Creek.

When rescue teams arrived at the location, they found the car overturned and sinking down the creek. The article published online later confirmed the passenger in the BMW ended up drowning. Paramedics rushed the victim to UC San Diego Medical Center in Hillcrest. The patient sadly died from brain injuries caused by drowning; and blunt force trauma to her head.
Meanwhile, investigators mentioned Jennifer Xavier walked back to the freeway following the accident. The woman reportedly accepted a ride from a good Samaritan. Police later identified the suspect, and determined her whereabouts. Officers eventually arrested Jennifer Xavier.
The District Attorney’s Office charged the woman under a theory of second-degree murder, meaning she was aware that the behavior she is accused of was dangerous to human life but did it anyway.
Further investigation on the case is ongoing.
