Jere Whitney, 78, Killed in Long Beach Hit-and-Run at 4th Street and Ximeno Avenue
LONG BEACH, CA (July 8, 2021) – A hit-and-run crash killed Jere Whitney at 4th Street and Ximeno Avenue in Long Beach.
Police identified the 78-year-old Long Beach woman as the victim of the fatal collision which took place late Tuesday night.
The incident happened when Jere Whitney was crossing 4th Street at the intersection with Ximeno Avenue in Long Beach. AT the same time, a vehicle was making a left turn.
For an unknown reason, the driver then struck the pedestrian in the roadway. Long Beach police said the victim was hit while walking in a marked crosswalk with a green light.

Firefighters along with the paramedics soon arrived at the scene and found her left lying on the ground. Jere Whitney sustained major injuries to her upper torso as a result of the accident.
Medical personnel rushed the elderly woman to a hospital, where she died. My News LA wrote that the crash occurred on July 6 shortly after 10 p.m.
Meanwhile, police affirmed that the motorist did not stop to render aid to the pedestrian and fled westbound on 4th Street. Officers described the car as a red Subaru Outback or Crosstrek.
Authorities are still searching for the hit-and-run driver who killed Jere Whitney. The Long Beach crash is still under investigation.
