Jerilyn Spooner, 80, Killed in Nevada County DUI Crash on Brunswick Road
NEVADA COUNTY, CA (March 28, 2023) – Jerilyn Spooner was killed after a DUI crash on Brunswick Road in Nevada County.
The California Highway Patrol identified the 80-year-old Grass Valley woman as the victim in the fatal wreck which took place on Monday.
The incident happened when Jerilyn Spooner was driving a 2006 Mercedes east on Brunswick Road in the Cedar Ridge area of Nevada County. At the same time, a 1994 Dodge pickup truck was going west.
CHP said the driver of the Dodge, 81-year-old Gerald Nelson, failed to negotiate a sharp curve and crossed the double yellow lines into the eastbound lane. In the process, he broadsided the Mercedes.

The two collided near the intersection with Highway 174. The Colfax man continued to the south side of the road and then slammed into a metal pole and a street sign.
The Sacramento Bee and KNCO News wrote that the collision occurred on March 27 shortly after 3 p.m. Jerilyn Spooner ended up trapped inside her car as a result of the crash.
Firefighters arrived, freed her from the wreckage and pronounced her dead at the scene. Meanwhile, Gerald Nelson survived the incident with minor injuries.
Paramedics rushed him to a hospital for further aid. CHP soon arrested and booked the suspect into the Nevada County Jail for felony DUI.
Officers forced a stretch of Brunswick Road to shut down for hours following the wreck. The cause of the Bakersfield crash is still under investigation.
