Man Killed in Crash Involving a Suspected DUI Driver
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (March 9, 2022) – Jermari Pierre Terrell, 19, died in a collision involving a suspected DUI driver Wednesday night on White Lane.
The two-vehicle crash happened about 10:50 p.m. on March 9th in the 4400 block of White Lane, near Dovewood Street, according to Bakersfield Now.
Jermari Terrell was traveling in a 2-door coupe westbound on White Lane. The suspect, identified as Kimberly Phommasouk, 29, was heading eastbound in an SUV on the same road when she attempted to turn left in front of his vehicle. The two vehicles collided and Jermari Terrell’s car veered off the roadway and struck a gas main.
The teenager suffered major injuries and died at the scene of the accident. Meanwhile, the suspected DUI driver suffered minor injuries. Paramedics transported her to the hospital, but Bakersfield police later arrested her on DUI charges.
Upon release from the hospital, police intend to arrest her on charges of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, felony driving under the influence resulting in death, and driving under the influence with a blood alcohol concentration greater than .08%
The fatal Bakersfield DUI crash remains under investigation.
A dozen nearby apartments were evacuated for roughly two hours due to the gas leak.
