Mother, 5 Dogs Killed; Javier Oliverez Arrested
LONG BEACH, Calif. (May 7, 2019) — Jessica Bingaman, a professional dog walker, was killed along with five dogs in her vehicle Tuesday morning following a collision that ended a police pursuit in Long Beach, according to KCAL 9 News in Los Angeles. Only one of the dogs in her vehicle survived the crash.
Police were chasing a suspect in a stolen vehicle identified as Javier Oliverez, 43. Oliverez, a known gang member, suffered moderate injuries in the crash.
The police pursuit started about 11:30 a.m. at Broadway and Alamitos, but it ended in the violent crash at 3rd and Temple. Paramedics responded to the scene with firefighters who had to extricate the woman and the animals who were trapped in the vehicle. They rushed the woman to a hospital where she died. Jessie, as she was known to friends, was reportedly driving to a dog park with six dogs in her vehicle when the collision took place. She is survived by a 10-year-old daughter who found out about the collision when she got out of school yesterday.
Police say the vehicle had been reported stolen the night before. Oliverez was arrested and charged with felony DUI, manslaughter and evading police.
