Jessica Dewet, 43, Hits Fruit Vendors in Ontario Fatal DUI Crash
ONTARIO, CA (July 5, 2021) – Authorities detained Jessica Dewet after a fatal DUI crash near Riverside Drive and Euclid Avenue in Ontario.
Police determined that the 43-year-old Chino woman was under the influence when she struck two fruit vendors. The accident took place on Monday morning.
The incident began when Jessica Dewet was driving a white van near Riverside Drive and Euclid Avenue in Ontario. At the same time, the two fruit vendors were crossing north on Riverside Drive.
Ontario police said Jessica Dewet then hit the male pedestrians and their fruit carts. KTLA News and CBS Los Angeles wrote that the collision occurred at around 11:15 a.m.
Hector Rabinal, 32; and Ariel Rabinal, 20, ID’d as Victims
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and found both men down on the ground. One of them, 32-year-old Hector Eduardo Rabinal, died at the scene.
Medical personnel rushed the other victim, 20-year-old Ariel Tacubal Rabinal, to a hospital for treatment of major injuries. They listed him in critical condition.
Meanwhile, the driver of the van ended up hospitalized with minor wounds. Police soon arrested Jessica Dewet on suspicion of felony DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter.
Family members of Hector Rabinal set up a GoFundMe page to help cover his funeral expenses. The Ontario DUI crash is still under investigation.
