Jesus Rodriguez Martinez, 67, Fatally Struck by Vehicle Santa Fe Drive Near Winton
Merced, CA (May 18, 2021) – Jesus Rodriguez Martinez, a 67-year-old Winton man, died following a traffic accident on Santa Fe Drive on May 13, Thursday.
The Merced Sun-Star reported Jesus Martinez was riding a bicycle heading west on Santa Fe Drive. In the area just west of Chestnut Lane, a 1999 Dodge Ram truck hit the cyclist from behind. The force from the impact ejected Jesus Martinez from his bike.
Deadly Bicycle Accident in Merced County, May 13
Shortly after 10:30 p.m., medical personnel arrived at the crash site and found the bicyclist unconscious. Paramedics performed life-saving measures to the man but he sadly succumbed to his injuries and died at the scene. The Merced County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as Jesus Martinez.
Authorities also identified the Dodge driver as 35-year-old David Cummins. The motorist appeared unharmed after the unfortunate event.
The precise cause of the deadly bicycle accident remained under investigation.
