Jesus Vargas Critical, 2 Men Killed in Delta-Mendota Bridge Head-On Crash
WESTLEY (October 7, 2018) – Two were killed and three were seriously injured after a traffic collision on the Delta-Mendota Canal bridge Friday evening, according to The Modesto Bee.
The accident was reported at about 5:15 p.m., west of Stark Road.
As per the article, California Highway Patrol said 20-year-old Alejandra Villanueva was driving a Chevrolet Trailblazer west on Howard Road at about 65 mph when at the same time a Toyota Corolla was headed east at 60 mph.
For an unknown reason, Villanueva drove off the north road edge and then corrected by turning the wheel to the left. The Patterson woman lost control of her car and went into the eastbound lane, directly into the path of the Corolla.
The two vehicles collided head-on and ended up on the eastbound lane of Howard Road on the Delta-Mendota Canal bridge. Three people were extricated from the wreckage.
Alejandra Villanueva, Armando Garcia Seriously Hurt
CHP affirmed that the male driver of the Corolla and his passenger, a 29-year-old Patterson man, died as a result of the crash. Their names have not been yet released pending notification of next of kin.
The third occupant of the Corolla, 24-year-old Atwater resident Jesus Vargas, was rushed to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto and was listed in critical condition.
Villanueva and her passenger, 21-year old Patterson resident Armando Garcia, were taken to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto with major injuries.
Meanwhile, officials believed all of the parties involved were wearing seat belts when the incident occurred. The investigation is ongoing.
