SLO Public Defender Dies in Collision on Pozo Road Tuesday
Santa Margarita, CA (November 24, 2021) – Jim Maguire, a 76-year-old man, suffered fatal injuries following a traffic accident that occurred on Pozo Road on November 23, Tuesday
The Tribune published an article online reporting Jim Maguire was driving a GMC Sierra pickup truck heading west on Pozo Road. When the man approached the area near Las Pilitas Road, he reportedly crashed into a semi truck.
Preliminary investigation revealed the semi was making a U-turn on the same road when for an unknown reason, Jim Maguire hit the rear of the trailer. The force from the impact resulted in deadly injuries to the longtime San Luis Obispo County public defender.
The catastrophic incident took place around 5:45 p.m.

When emergency crews arrived, they found the driver of the GMC unconscious. Paramedics performed life-saving measures to the victim but he sadly succumbed to his injuries and died.
The operator of the semi truck appeared unharmed after the collision.
Detectives stayed at the scene the whole afternoon. Authorities continue to investigate the precise cause of the fatal traffic crash on Pozo Road.
