Jin Choi, 29, of San Jose, Killed in Big Rig Truck Crash
FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (August 6, 2018) — Jin Choi, 29, of San Jose died after a collision between his 2017 Honda Civic and a big rig in Fresno County, according to the Fresno Bee.
The collision took place about 6 p.m. near Firebaugh.
Mr. Choi was reportedly driving his Honda eastbound on Shields Avenue and allegedly failed to stop for a stop sign at the intersection with Russell Avenue.
The big rig truck, which was hauling two flatbed trailers, was heading south on Russell Avenue. The truck crashed into the driver’s side of the car at an estimated 55 mph. Unfortunately, Mr. Choi died upon impact.
The big rig driver identified as Daniel Cardenas, 25, of Hanford was not injured.
Traffic Accident Investigation
At this time, police are reviewing the evidence to determine fault. It’s unknown at this time if there was any video footage or witnesses to confirm the truck driver’s account of what happened. Additionally, police investigators should confirm whether or not a mechanical issue with the Honda was a contributing factor.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of Mr. Choi as they cope with this horrible news.
