Motorcyclist Killed in Crash was Half Moon Bay Major’s Son
MIRAMAR, Calif. (May 28, 2024) — Joaquin Dominik Jimenez, 28, of Half Moon Bay, died Saturday night when his motorcycle and a pickup truck collided on Highway 1 in Miramar.
The two-vehicle collision occurred at around 5:45 p.m. on May 26th, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.
The motorcyclist was struck by a driver in a pickup truck on Highway 1 at Mirada Road, just north of Half Moon Bay, according to East Bay Times.
Sheriff’s deputies were called to the scene and a volunteer firefighter from the area was first to arrive and performed CPR on the motorcyclist. However, despite efforts to save his life the rider died at the scene, authorities said.
The pickup truck driver stopped and cooperated with authorities.
The San Mateo County Coroner’s Office later identified the motorcyclist as Joaquin Dominik Jimenez and the East Bay Times reports he was the son of Half Moon Bay Mayor Joaquin Jimenez.
Police closed down the northbound and southbound lanes of Highway 1 between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. to investigate. The Sheriff’s Office Major Accident Investigation Team is handling the investigation.
