IRVINE, California (May 10, 2016) — Joe Philips, 59, of Santa Ana was killed Monday afternoon when his car collided with a truck on the Foothill 241 Transportation Corridor, a California Highway Patrol report said.
The crash took place about 2:35 p.m., just north of the Portola Parkway. Philips was driving a white 2001 Toyota Camry when he suddenly veered into the center median and struck a stopped Caltrans truck and then a Ford F-150 pickup truck.
Paramedics with the Orange County Fire Authority responded to the scene of the crash, but Philips died of his injuries there.
There were no updates provided regarding the condition of the Caltrans truck driver.
The CHP is investigating what led to the crash and liability.
