Hit-and-Run Driver Joel Alonzo, 40, Injures Pedestrian in Sacramento County Crash
SACRAMENTO COUNTY, CA (April 26, 2021) – Authorities detained Joel Alonzo after a hit-and-run crash in Sacramento County two months ago.
The California Highway Patrol identified the 40-year-old man as the suspect that left a woman and a child injured on February 7.
The incident began when Joel Alonzo was driving a stolen Honda Odyssey west on Lucchesi Drive. At the same time, Jasleen Kaur was walking with her 8-month-old baby in a stroller on the south side of the road.
CHP said the 36-year-old and the infant were crossing eastbound Harney Way when the van made a left turn. In the process, the Honda Odyssey struck Kaur.
The impact knocked the stroller on its side and the child ended up ejected into the street. The collision occurred in the Vineyard neighborhood of South Sacramento.

Paramedics then rushed them to UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento for treatment of unspecified injuries. The Sacramento Bee and ABC 10 News reported the accident at around 4:30 p.m.
Meanwhile, Joel Alonzo did not stop to render aid and fled the area. CHP found the minivan abandoned in the 9800 block of Dino Drive in Elk Grove two days after the crash.
Deputies soon located Alonzo at a homeless encampment under a bridge at French Road and German Drive in south Sacramento. They arrested him on suspicion of felony hit-and-run.
Authorities charged the suspect with vehicle theft, possessing a stolen vehicle and violating probation and booked him at the Sacramento County Jail.
