Joel Carrillo, 23, Killed Wrong-Way Crash on Highway 41
FRESNO COUNTY, Calf. (November 16, 2020) — Joel Carrillo, 23, of Clovis, died in a wrong-way crash Nov. 10th on Highway 41 near Riverdale.
The fatal crash was reported at 8:45 p.m. on November 10th, just south of Harlan Avenue, according to ABC30 News.
The young man, who is called Joey by his family, was driving a 2008 Honda Civic on Highway 41 when a driver in a rental truck veered across traffic lanes and crashed into his car. The suspect narrowly missed hitting a 2001 Ford Mustang whose driver veered out of the way and crashed into a metal fence.
Carrillo was unable to avoid the collision with the rental truck and also crashed into a 2012 Buick LaCrosse.
Woman Arrested for DUI, Manslaughter
Amber Sexton, 33, was driving a 2020 Chevrolet rental pickup truck when she allegedly crossed over into the northbound lane and crashed head-on into Joey’s car.
The 23-year-old Clovis man suffered major injuries and was transported to Community Regional Medical Center where he later died.
Meanwhile two people in the Buick had undisclosed minor injuries and were treated on scene. Two people in the Mustang did not get hurt.
Sexton was also transported to the hospital with moderate injuries. Police determined she was under the influence of drugs when the collision happened.
Sexton was arrested for gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and four other criminal counts.
Police also stated she was in possession of narcotics paraphernalia and driving without a valid license. The fatal crash remains under investigation.
