Postal Worker Joel Perales Killed in Commerce USPS Truck Accident
COMMERCE (December 23, 2018) – A postal worker was killed after a traffic collision near Eastern Avenue and Atlantic Boulevard Monday morning, according to KTLA and ABC 7.
The deceased victim has been identified by family members as 58-year-old Joel Perales, who worked for the service for 30 years.
As per the reports, Perales was standing outside of his US Postal Service truck when he was struck by a sedan. A footage showed that a white coupe was lodged underneath the back end of a postal truck.
The postal truck had its windshield shattered and apparently hit the rear of a large container truck. The accident took place at about 10 a.m. in the 2100 block of South Atlantic Boulevard.

Fire department officials along with the paramedics responded and found two vehicles forced into a nearby building which sustained structural damage upon impact.
Perales was rushed to the hospital where he later died. A GoFundMe page has been created to help with his funeral expenses and his family.
A party inside the structure was also hospitalized with unspecified injuries while a third person was also hurt but refused hospitalization. The names of the wounded people were not disclosed.
Meanwhile, the driver of the sedan was given field sobriety tests for possible DUI. The investigation is ongoing.
