Beloved Father, Grandfather Killed in Crash Involving DUI Suspect
LODI, Calif. (Jan. 7, 2025) — John Alexander, 86, of Stockton, died Sunday morning in a crash involving a suspected DUI driver on the Interstate 5 Freeway in Lodi.
It happened early Sunday around 2 a.m. on Jan. 5th along the I-5 Freeway near Turner Road in Lodi, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Taljinder Singh, 29, was driving a 2012 Toyota Camry at high speed when he allegedly rear-ended the victim’s southbound 2003 Honda Civic. The impact caused the Honda to veer off the roadway and overturn. John Alexander was killed upon impact, the report said.
The Toyota spun around and came to a stop in the number 2 lane of the freeway.
Police arrested Taljinder Singh following the crash on felony DUI and vehicular manslaughter charges.
The father of 11, who has more than 120 grandchildren, was heading home from Sacramento at the time of the crash, according to his family.
His children hope his death will bring awareness to the dangers of drunk driving.
The staggering death toll from drunk driving has been on the rise in California.
“Every day, about 37 people in the United States die in drunk-driving crashes — that’s one person every 39 minutes. In 2022, 13,524 people died in alcohol-impaired driving traffic deaths. These deaths were all preventable.,” according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
