Jurupa Valley Man, 38, Struck and Killed on Limonite Ave is Identified

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, Calif. (Jan. 16, 2024) — John Bejarano, 38, of Jurupa Valley, died Monday night in a pedestrian accident on Limonite Avenue, just east of Camino Real in Jurupa Valley.

A driver struck the victim in the roadway at around 8:32 p.m. on Monday, January 15th, according to a press release by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Dept.

Police Respond to Pedestrian Accident

The Jurupa Valley Sheriff’s Station sent deputies to the scene of the major-injury traffic collision and located the man down in the roadway. However, the victim died shortly after the crash at 8:38 p.m., the report said. He was identified as John Bejarano by the Riverside coroner.

Meanwhile, the driver of the vehicle stopped and did not report any injuries. He cooperated with the investigation into the fatality crash and was released at the scene, police said.

The Jurupa Valley Traffic Collision Reconstruction Team is heading up the investigation.

Jurupa Valley Sheriff’s Dept. Investigation

At this time, police have learned the driver was traveling eastbound on Limonite Avenue and was not believed to be speeding. The drivers struck the pedestrian in the middle of the roadway as he was walking in a southbound direction. There are no indications that alcohol was a factor in the collision, but results are likely pending.

Authorities closed down both directions of Limonite Avenue in between Camino Real and Peralta Place to conduct the investigation.

Finally, witnesses are asked to call Deputy Eric Petersen of the Jurupa Valley Sheriff’s Station at 951-955-2600 or the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office at 951-776-1099.

Riverside County Traffic Statistics

There were 12,257 injury and fatality collisions in Riverside County in 2020, according to the most recent statistics compiled by the Office of Traffic Safety. Also, 1,484 of these collisions involved alcohol and 2,613 were speed related, the report said. The county ranks 23rd among 58 similar sized counties in California for it’s number of traffic injuries and fatalities.

Furthermore, the report states that 813 of the injury or fatality collisions involved a motorcyclist and 473 involved a pedestrian.
