John Canavan, 59, Seriously Injured in Coulterville Crash on Highway 49
COULTERVILLE, CA (April 27, 2021) – John Canavan was seriously injured after a motorcycle crash on Highway 49 in Coulterville.
The California Highway Patrol identified the 59-year-old Cool, El Dorado County man as the victim of the wreck on Monday afternoon.
The incident happened on April 26 when John Canavan was riding a 2018 dual-sport BMW motorcycle south on Highway 49 in Coulterville.
At the same time, Selina Granados was riding a 2019 Honda street bike north. She was approaching a curve when for an unknown reason she crossed over the double-yellow lines.

The 37-year-old Merced woman then went directly into the path of John Canavan. In the process, the two motorcyclists collided head-on near Schilling Road.
CHP said both riders ended up ejected from their motorbikes as a result of the collision. They were going 30 to 35 mph as they approached each other and were wearing their helmets at the time.
The Union Democrat and My Mother Lode reported the wreck at about 2:10 p.m. Firefighters along with the paramedics responded to the scene and found them suffering from major injuries.
An air ambulance took Canavan to the Doctors Medical Center in Modesto for treatment. Another helicopter transported Granados to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto
Meanwhile, officers soon forced the road to shut down for a time following the accident. Authorities are still investigating the Coulterville crash.
