
John Dewit, 57, Killed in Fontana Crash at Baseline and Palmetto
FONTANA, CA (April 6, 2023) – John Dewit was killed after a motorcycle crash at Baseline and Palmetto avenues in Fontana.
The coroner’s office identified the 57-year-old Eastvale man as the victim in the fatal wreck which took place on Thursday.
The incident happened when John Dewit was riding a 2011 silver Harley Davidson east on Baseline Avenue, toward Palmetto Avenue, in Fontana.
At the same time, a white 2010 Chrysler 300 was going north on Palmetto. Police said the Chrysler then stopped at the stop sign and drove through the intersection.
Woman Injured in Wreck
In the process, the motorcycle collided with the side of the car. The Fontana Herald News wrote that the accident occurred on April 6 at about 7:07 a.m.
The rider ended up thrown from his Harley Davidson onto the roadway due to the impact of the collision. He sustained serious injuries as a result of the wreck.
Deputies confirmed that John Dewit soon died at the scene of the crash. The driver of the Chrysler, a 34-year-old Fontana woman, complained of pain in her neck following the incident.
Paramedics rushed her to the Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for treatment. Meanwhile, officers forced the area of Baseline and Palmetto avenues to shut down for hours after the wreck.
The cause of the Fontana crash is still under investigation.
