Fatal Rollover Crash Yosemite and Kibby Intersection
MERCED COUNTY, Calif. (May 29, 2018) – John Harris, 40, has been identified by his family as one of three men who died Tuesday morning following a head- crash at E. Yosemite Avenue and Kibby Road, a California Highway Patrol.
The collision took place about 9:34 a.m. between two vehicles.
It’s unknown at this time whether Harris was the 40-year-old Atwater man police say was driving the Nissan Sentra involved in the crash. Maria Pitman ID’d Harris on Facebook as one of the victims. He is the father of her son, Sergio Harris. That vehicle reportedly attempted to pass slower-moving vehicles and crashed head-on into a Honda Civic driven by a 46-year-old Merced man.
The two drivers died at the scene and both of their passengers were injured. It’s possible that Harris was instead the passenger in the Nissan, but this has not been confirmed. That man died at the hospital.
A woman in her 70s who was a passenger in the Honda was airlifted to a hospital for treatment of major injuries.
The Honda had major front-end damage and the Nissan had major damage all over as it overturned.
Fatal Accident Investigation
Police are investigating this collision to determine the cause and liability. At this time, it’s apparent that the driver who attempted to pass the truck and crashed into the other motorist will be considered at fault.
