Bicyclist Killed in New Year’s Day Crash Identified
RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. (Jan. 8, 2025) — John Henebry, Jr., 76, of Rancho Mirage, has been identified as the bicycle rider who died in a crash on Highway 111 in Rancho Mirage.
The deadly collision occurred around 10:15 a.m. on New Year’s Day near Frank Sinatra Drive, according to the Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner.
Paramedics responded and located the man unresponsive in the roadway.
A driver in a white SUV reportedly struck the victim in the westbound lanes of Highway 111, according to the report.
However, despite efforts to save his life, the cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, the driver in the SUV stopped and cooperated with the investigation, police said.
Finally, the Palm Desert Station’s Traffic Reconstruction Team is handling the investigation.
